Embroidered Brooches
Space Collection 01
This collection was inspired by the intersection between fiber and space travel. Weaving and the loom gave rise to computers. Seamstresses hand built the first space suits. The universe itself is described as a fabric. This collection honors that history by blending together felting and embroidery to mimic the cosmos.
Sky collection 01
Following the space collection, I wanted to create something a bit closer to home. I chose to highlight the coastal sunsets of where I live, blending night skies into pink clouds and adding the ever present American Herring Gulls.
FUCUS (SEAWEED) collection
This collection came out of the desire to highlight a small aspect of Maine’s coastal ecosystem. Whenever I go beach combing or tide pooling, seaweed is always there. These designs were based on bladderwrack seaweed, and play with imagining this seaweed in different colors.
loon collection
A collection exploring one of Maine’s iconic birds. Re-imagining them as mystical creatures that could protect residents of the state through breathing fire or shooting lasers out of their eyes.
Legacy collection (ongoing)
In the 90s and 00s, my grandparents attended markets in New England, selling their hand carved and hand painted wooden pins. I was too young to ever see their markets in person, but their artwork has been a mainstay in my life and home for as long as I can remember. After inheriting a number of pins from them, I wanted to recreate a few favorite designs.
