OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS

As I get a better idea of what my goals are for writing, editing, and creating professionally, I wanted to update my online presence.

You’ll find that my website now has a new look, and I now offer writing samples for those who request them.

Additionally, I’m starting this newsletter. I hope that it serves three purposes.

  1. to celebrate my work as a writer, artist, and editor. Much of my creation process happens alone, and I’d love the chance to share more of it.

  2. to serve as a resource. As I try out new software, read articles, and figure out what works for me as a writer, I want to share those resources.

  3. to spread a little bit of wonder. There are things that inspire and astonish me, and I want to share those too, as they add value to my writing, sometimes in ways that are hard to describe.

RESOURCES:

  1. NOTION — I’ve been using this software for close to a year now. I’ve found that the table functions in the app are particularly useful for keeping track of lit mag/ contest submissions. They remind me of excel, but easier to use and more pleasing to look at. Check it out here

  2. MILANOTE — In addition to Notion, I’ve been using Milanote to help me keep a schedule. It’s sort of like a big, digital whiteboard where you can move items around freely. It’s an excellent tool for brainstorming, but I tend to use it more for flexible scheduling. Check it out here

  3. STORYGRAPH I’ve recently moved from Goodreads to Storygraph at the recommendation of a friend, and I like it a lot more. I love Stroygraph’s tagging system, analytics about my reading habits, and book recommendations. Check it out here

DELIGHTS:

  1. Pixar’s Luca & the Art of Luca art book I love the setting, art style, and story of friendship in Luca, and I have been enjoying the art book just as much. In particular, I’ve been thinking about the ways that the art in the movie sometimes pulled back from the characters and showed them as small things in a very big landscape. That feeling of being small within an environment is one of my favorite experiences when I go hiking, and seeing it depicted in the movie has made me wonder how to do it within writing.

  2. Restless Heart by Yasmin Williams — This song has been on most of my playlists as of late. It’s absolutely beautiful. Watch her perform it here

  3. Francisco Fonseca’s Art — I found his instragram account within the last month or so and the way he illustrates houses is fantastical and strange, I absolutely love his style. Much of his work also gives me that “small within a landscape” feeling. Check out his instagram

And that’s all for this week’s newsletter. As I settle into the routine of writing these, things may change. Including whether I send these weekly or every other week.

Until the next one,

E
